What to Do in Bora Bora

Bora Bora is a lagoon island and is considered one of the most beautiful locations not only in French Polynesia but in the entire world. Despite the fact it is one of the most commercialized of all destinations in Tahiti, it retains its natural and cultural heritage and beauty.

The offshore islands of Bora Bora provide you with magnificent views and cruises allow you to see the lagoon whilst enjoying wonderful food and snorkeling with the colorful reef fish. Sharks, rays and eels are commonly seen here too as can dolphins at certain times of the year. Scuba diving is popular here and Bora Bora is considered to be one of the world’s best diving destinations.

There are some tiny islands to the north of Bora Bora and on them you will find the Pearl Beach Resort as well as the local airport. This spot is great for snorkeling and swimming. Private Island Lodge can provide you with an island virtually to yourself and is well worth a visit!

The eastern reef of Bora Bora contains some of the longest stretches of beaches to be found. Some are miles long and remarkably free of humans. There are however some large resorts in ideal locations such as the Le Meridien Resort that has 100 bungalows with awe inspiring views of the bay and beach. Sea turtles use this bay as do many fish.

The Lagoonarium is a man made attraction where animals like sting rays, manta rays and eagle rays are bred. They are released into the ocean once they are mature and this is an important conservation project that is assisted by the funds from visiting tourists, so make sure you pay them a visit and support this very worthwhile cause.

If you love powerful marine animals then take a visit to the Shark and Ray Watching Excursion. A canoe tour takes you around the island where you can watch sharks and rays feeding. Watch from the boat or even jump in and snorkel amongst the marine life.

Bora Bora is a popular destination with good reason; it thrives with activity, culture, nature and great food and is an ideal vacation spot.
